They send the hearts of their female fans aflutter with their matinee-idol good looks, they also captivate with their great screen performances. Three of the best young actors in Philippine showbiz- Piolo Pascual, Sam Milby and John Lloyd Cruz- will grace the Washington D.C. stage when they perform on Sunday, March 28 at GWU Lisner auditorium in their show aptly titled Heartthrobs. Piolo Pascual has performed here twice but this is the first time John Lloyd Cruz and Sam Milby will have a show here. Special guest is comedienne Pokawang. This show is produced by Ding and Girlie Simpelo of ABA Productions.
Piolo Pascual is considered the greatest actor of his generation. You simply cant get any bigger than Piolo Pascual, he gets the prime roles in the most important projects, the one with the most consistent box-office appeal, a most sought-after product endorser, and a name that is consistently talked about. All the teleseryes he has done, including the current ABS-CBN drama Lobo, are all certified hits, as do his concerts here and abroad. His breakthrough role was in 2002s Dekada 70″ for which he won the grand slam best supporting actor award. I interviewed Piolo in 2005 when he had a show with the Hunks at Howard University. I found him to be articulate and humble- an all-around nice guy. Im sure his many fans in the D.C. metro area are looking forward to seeing him come back and perform on March 28.
John Lloyd Cruz started acting at a young age, it was his role in the teleserye Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay that got him noticed and rave reviews, elevating him to leading man status.
John Lloyd has many of the physical attributes that Filipinos look for in a leading man. Director Lauren Dyogi who helmed John Lloyd in the movie All About Love and Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay, adds that the actors personality contributes to his appeal: Enigmatic kasi ang personality niya. Hes very quiet. Tahimik lang siya, so hindi mo talaga alam kung ano ang iniisip niya. But what puts him in the heartthrob category, first and foremost, ako ang paniwala ko-parang siyang si Aga Muhlach. Being a leading man, dalang-dala niya yong being in a romantic lead in a dramatic mode. . . Hindi siya yong pa-cute lang. Hindi teenybopper ang appeal niya. May intensity at saka may lalim ang portrayals niya.” This is evidenced in his nuanced role as the strong-willed corporate executive in the teleserye Maging Sino Ka Man currently seen on the TFC channel.
Fil-Am Sam Milby was vacationing in the Phillipines when he decided to join the first edition of Pinoy Big Brother on a lark. Among the housemates, he stood out for his smoldering good looks, his charm and his Americanized upbringing. So its not surprise when ABS-CBN signed him up as the next big thing. The 23-year-old Ohio native became an instant crush nang bayan.
Advertisers quickly signed him up as endorser of products from hotdogs to papaya soap to multivitamin supplements. Fil-Am Sam couldnt speak straight Tagalog when he entered showbiz.
But instead of this being a liability, it only enhanced his charisma. His baluktot na tagalog came across as cute and made him more endearing.
Besides being incredibly good looking, he is also known to be polite and very nice.
