Names of youth for FAYLP bared May 31

The Philippine embassy recently announced that the Filipino American Youth Leadership Program (FAYLP) has received an enthusiastic response from hundreds of interested students and young professionals throughout the United States. From Jacksonville, Florida to Anchorage, Alaska, applicants signified their desire to get engaged in issues affecting the Philippines with their submission of applications to the program, it said.

FAYLP will bring ten young achievers to the Philippines to take part in the 7th Ambassadors, Consuls General, and Tourism Directors Tour from July 11 to 14 and a special 2-day program, which includes meetings with prominent Filipinos in government and business, visiting academic institutions and cultural sites, and taking part in social events. These individuals are being tapped as future leaders of their respective Filipino-American communities and whose civic involvement and advocacy of important issues could contribute to the further development of the Philippines.

Among the sponsors of the program are Chevron, the Makati Business Club, and the Ayala Foundation. ABS-CBN is also involved as a media partner, with valuable coverage for the program provided through The Filipino Channel.  Due to the deluge of applications received by the deadline, the Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C. announces that the identities of the chosen participants will be revealed on May 31, 2012, instead of May 15, in order to give the applications the time and attention they deserve for proper and thorough evaluation.
