SONOMA, California -Kim Liaz, a Filipino American student in Sonoma State University is a Diversity ‘senator’ for the university’s student government. As a third year, first generation, Filipino-American student at Sonoma State, I have seen an increase in the diversity of SSU student population on campus, she said. SSU is one of the most affluent, whitest campuses in the CSU. “With that in mind, it is my job as Diversity Senator to speak for the marginalized students. Dialogues between underrepresented students and privilege students need to happen. An SSU graduate student, Michaela Spangenburg, presented the idea of student dialogues to the Associated Students Diversity Affairs Council recently.
