Adobo’ served in Ohio U

MARION – At the international night held early this month at the Ohio State University here, Somali, Japanese, Filipino, Mexican and Indian cuisines filled the 600 plates that were handed out to those who explored A Taste of Culture. That was a way to start to gauge how many people shuffled through the busy gymnasium, said Diversity Coordinator Shawn Jackson. Events such as that bring a heightened awareness of diversity in the community, he said. Visitors browsed the tables of 16 cultures that were represented as dancers in traditional dress performed Celtic numbers, Indian pieces and American hip hop. Other group performances were followed by Anthony Henderson, a Filipino student dressed in a T-shirt with his home country’s flag, cargo shorts, a black hat and white mask.
His mother, Menchie Henderson-Borromeo, organized the Filipino display at the festival for the group’s first year.
