Sulu residents slam police inaction on rape cases

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – Residents of Sulu, particularly Tausug women, have appealed to President Macapagal-Arroyo and human rights groups to look into the series of gang rape incidents on the island. On Thursday last week, hundreds of residents staged a rally against the sexual attacks by alleged scions of influential families. Jane Farida Lakibul, a nursing student and student government president of the Sulu State College, said an independent investigation should be conducted on the rape cases.
