MANILA, Philippines— (UPDATE) Temper flared at the resumption of the Senate investigation into the botched $329-million national broadband network (NBN) project scandal when businessman Jose ‘Joey’ de Venecia III protested a senator’s insinuation that he had been a ‘bad son’ to former House Speaker Jose De Venecia Jr. The young De Venecia denied that he did not defend his father and President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo when then elections chairman Benjamin Abalos dragged their names in one of their meetings with ZTE officials. China’s ZTE won the project but the government aborted it because of corruption allegations. Joey said he got mad at Abalos’s mention of his father and confronted him…
