2 RP filmmakers win video contest

Besting hundreds of contestants from 95 countries, two young Filipino filmmakers – Melissa Penafiel, 22, and Miguel Ocampo, 20 – were among the six winners in an international online Democracy Video Challenge sponsored by the US state department. The Challenge asked young video makers to complete the phrase, “Democracy is…” through three-minute videos posted on the competition’s YouTube. Following this format, Peñafiel and Ocampo submitted an entry called “Long Live the Fearless Man” which discussed how democracy has worked for and against the people.
