Police are hunting for hit-run driver.
WASHINGTON D.C. – Filipino American Cristina Lopez Dodd, 49, and her 13-year old daughter, Natalia “Kim” Jallorina, were struck and seriously injured by a hit-and-run car while crossing Bel Pre Road at Connecticut Avenue in Aspen Hill, Maryland evening of Dec. 16.

The next day, police said they have recovered the vehicle they thought struck the two. It’s a green Ford Mustang found recently burned along Castle Road with an impacted front end.
Maricris Jallorina, daughter-in-law of the victim, appealed to the driver to surrender to police. “Please whoever you are, please come out and show up. Please have mercy on my mom. My sister-in-law— she’s too young. please,” Maricris said in a TV broadcast.
Relatives are praying Dodd will survive. She remains in critical condition at Suburban Hospital with a hemorrhage in the brain, multiple fractures and injuries to her liver.
“They [doctors] are saying it will be a miracle if she would make it,” Jallorina said.
Kim is doing better, says she doesn’t remember anything about the accident. The family says Dodd was bringing Kim home to her brother’s house where Kim lived when the accident happened.
Dodd and her daughter were crossing Bel Pre Road, headed for the bus stop. Jallorina says her mother-in-law insisted on taking the bus because she didn’t want her driving in bad weather.
Dodd lives at an apartment complex near the intersection. She realized something was wrong, when she saw the accident on the news and couldn’t reach them.
It’s unclear if the mother and daughter were in the crosswalk or if the car was speeding. Police have speed cameras along Bel Pre Road and are checking those images to see if it captured the hit-and-run driver.
In addition to her daughter, Dodd also has a son who lives in Rockville and a grown son and daughter in the Philippines that she supports.
Cristina is suffering from a fractured eye socket, lacerated liver, and various other life-threatening injuries. Her daughter remains in the hospital, but is expected to recover from her injuries.
Cristina’s husband, Michael Dodd, said his wife and stepdaughter had just gotten off a bus and were in the crosswalk when they were struck. “The first impression I get is no conscience,” said Michael, who is a Ride On bus driver. “They must be cold — have ice running through their veins.” He said he now plans to spend Christmas in the hospital.
Residents in the area note despite improvements, the intersection is still dangerous. “That corner is a little bit heinous — it’s really a tough, aggressive road to get,” Duane Hedstrom told TV news.
After the incident, Montgomery County police put out a description of the older model green Ford Mustang witnesses say took off after it hit the two victims. At 8:25 p.m. on the same day, police were told of a vehicle on fire at 13920 Castle Boulevard several miles away. On Wednesday morning, they discovered the car.
Technicians from the Montgomery County Forensic Services Section and CRU detectives are now examining the vehicle for evidence.
