Kibitzer’s Corner

Kibitzer's Corner By J.G. Azarcon Esq.It was supposed to be Sen. Barak Obama’s coronation. He came out of the massive Styrofoam temple to the adoring throngs of thousands filling the football stadium. Here comes the savior. Hallelujah, Barak Obama.
Hollywood hyperventilated. This is our time!
Never before has a political convention attracted close to 70,000 live people and around 37 Million TV viewers. This was history. Along with the soaring oration of Obama was the fireworks spectacle that made the evening like a new day was coming. Obama has been leading in the polls all summer long. Victory is at hand.
And then came Hurricane Palin. Depending on the final outcome, John McCain’s selection of Gov. Sarah Palin may turn out to be his best judgement. The record TV viewership of the Democratic convention that party loyalists bragged about was broken in a week by the GOP convention. The talk now was Sarah Palin. She has electrified Republicans and may have awakened many who used to give a pass in past elections.
She has rocked the boat and this has raised the ire of the left. How dare she interrupts Baraks coronation. Actress Annette Benning calls Palin’s selection as Vice Presidential candidate as “bizarre.” Actor Matt Damon says a Palin in the White House is bad for America.
The weekend following the GOP convention, I played golf with two ladies and a gentleman. Before I introduced myself, I did some stretching behind them. I overheard a very interesting conversation. They were ardent admirers of Sen. Obama.
“That speech, I just loved it. If only all people would hear Obama.”
“What do you think of Palin for Vice President?”
“Well, she is just a Mayor of a town with 9,000 people. And she has five children, one with down syndrome. She will take them with her to the White House?”
That conversation actually mirrors the attacks against Palin in the media. The left is so obsessed now with diminishing Palin’s sudden rise in stature that they cannot even accept the fact that she is a governor of a state with a lot to give to the nation’s economy and a state that is America’s front line defense.
So what if she takes her five children to the White House? Actually the nitpicking lady forgot that the Vice President has his or her own mansion and does not live in the White House.
Nobody ever raised the issue about Barak Obama bringing his children to the White House. If Obama can, why not Palin?
Sen. Joe Biden says that Palin’s election will be a step backward for the women of America. Here is a woman who supported herself to college, raised a happy family, chose to lead rather than be a contented follower and actually succeeding in wresting power from a well entrenched political machine. Is this not what every woman dream about- having a happy family and a career that makes a difference in the lives of people?
So what if she has five children? I thought we have gone beyond the stereotype of old that the woman’s place is only in the home. The fact that she can handle the difficult task of being a mother of five children and still serve as a no nonsense governor only shows that she is heads and shoulders over the others, including Annette Benning, Matt Damon and Sen. Joe Biden.
Experience? When did Obama and Biden ever had to budget 17 Billion dollars and manage 29,000 employees? When did they ever command men in arms like the National Guard who are called upon to fight for America and assist citizens in critical times?
Obama and Biden of course have more debating experience, having done more political posturing in the legislature. But if bloviating were the measure of leadership, I would vote for Rev. Al Sharpton for president.
