Filam stude named to health board

STOCKTON, CA - Irene Calimlim, a 16-year-old senior at Franklin High School in Stockton, is one of 20 young people across the nation named to the Youth Advisory Board of the Alliance for a Healthier Generation. She recently returned from the board’s orientation meeting in Kansas City, Missouri. Irene, who’s half-Filipino, half-Japanese, is the daughter of Izumi and Henry Assauw of Stockton. She is in the International Baccalaureate Program at Franklin High School and is currently considering her options
for college next year. Irene is on the honor roll and is a member of the California Scholastic Federation and National Society of High School Scholars. She recently became the president of the International
Baccalaureate Club and vice-president of the Model United Nations Club.

She is also and involved in the Science Olympiad. The Alliance for a Healthier Generation is working to eliminate childhood obesity and inspire all young people in the United States to develop lifelong, healthy habits. It’s a project of the William J. Clinton Foundation and the American Heart Association which began in 2005. California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger joined the Alliance in 2007and serves as a co-lead along with President Bill Clinton and President of the American Heart Association, Dan Jones, M.D.
