Filam recalls Vietnam service
GALVESTON, Texas – Ray L. Burdeos has just published his new memoir, “Filipinos in the U.S. Navy & Coast Guard during the Vietnam War” (published by AuthorHouse) which sheds light on the Filipinos who fought alongside American soldiers in the Vietnam war and shares his experiences in the U.S. Coast Guard. Burdeos tells the story of 12 Filipinos — six in the Navy and six in the Coast Guard — who were recruited under the direction of the Chief of Naval Operations at the U.S. Naval Station, Sangley Point, Cavite, Philippines. Burdeos asserts that the recruitments occurred under what he calls “very unusual circumstances,” because the men were not U.S. citizens or green card holders and entered a U.S. port in San Francisco without a Philippines passport or U.S. visa of any kind.
