The Metro Manila Development Authority said customers of its second
Gwapotel inn on Jose Abad Santos Street in Tondo could sleep overnight
in an air-conditioned room for only P20, and take an eight-minute bath
for P5. Amante Salvador, chief of the Metropolitan Social Services Office, said
the agency was building enough three-deck beds to accommodate 800 people
at any given time. He said the rooms would have luggage compartments, controls for lighting and temperature and piped-in music. The inn, once an abandoned 2,800-square-meter hospital, is scheduled for opening on May 1.
