Rotary student exchange in Fla.

FLORIDA - Central Florida is sending a group of traveling ambassadors to the Philippines and welcoming a similar group in exchange. For the past 30 years Rotary International a humanitarian-service organization, has sent ambassadors around the world to learn about different cultures through the Rotary Foundation’s Group Study Exchange program. This year Rotary District 6980 of Central Florida selected five professionals and one team leader to participate in the month-long program in Luzon, Philippines. The group begins its adventure April 5. A team from Rotary District 3790 in the Philippines will visit Central Florida at the same time as part of the study exchange.
“The Group Study Exchange promotes good will and understanding amongst people of the world and gives people an opportunity to get to know others on a very personal level,” said Rotary Group Study Exchange chairman Clark Gwinn. Rotary 6980 district has 44 clubs and more than 2,300 members, in Lake, Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Sumter counties.
Rotary has 1.2 million members worldwide.The ambassadors, individuals at the beginning of their careers, are selected by a committee after an application and interview process. They are not associated with Rotary and are 25 to 40 years old. Team leaders are selected from Rotary members.
