President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is acting to spare the life of May Vecina, an Overseas Filipino Worker, whose death sentence was affirmed by the Kuwait supreme court for the killing of the six-year-old son of her employer last year. She is planning to send Vice President Noli de Castro to plead to the Emir of Kuwait to spare Vecina’s life. Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Raul Gonzales meanwhile made the outlandish proposal to OFWs in the Middle East to bondup and raise the P30 million blood money which is being sought by the victim’s family. He said that by chipping-in two to five pesos each, OFWs in the Middle East region could gather enough money to save Vecina from hanging. Vecina reportedly killed the boy because she was maltreated by the boy’s parents.
