We join the nation in extending our “Mabuhay” (Long Live) greetings to Pope Benedict XVI when he arrives in Washington D.C. on April 15 for a 4-day visit.
This is a historic occasion for Filipino American Catholics in the area. It will the first time that they will be participating as a distinct group in welcoming the Pope to the nation’s capital, his first visit to the United States since his elevation to the papacy in the Vatican three years ago. In previous visits by other Popes to DC, the Filipino American Catholic groups in the area were hardly visible. They remained in the background because they were hardly a cohesive group. Read more
