Malacanang recently announced that it would help repatriate former agriculture undersecretary Jocelyn “Jocjoc” Bolante who is under detention in the US on immigration charges if the Senate resumes its P728-million fertilizer scam investigation. “Why only now? It has been two years since he was detained in the United States and the government didn’t lift a finger to bring him back,” Quezon Rep. Lorenzo Tañada III said. Presidential Chief Legal Counsel Sergio Apostol has said Malacañang would work for the return of Bolante if the Senate needs him in its fertilizer scam probe. Tañada said it is possible that the Palace possesses information that Bolante may have lost his asylum petition. “If this is the case, then Malacañang is not sincere in its statement and only wants to look good by offering to work for the return of Bolante,” he said.
