10 Filipino students vie for Intel prize

The winners of the IPSF for individual science research works were Jed Sidney Oliva of the Ballesteros National High School in Cagayan Valley; Andrew Diamante of the Visayas State University Laboratory High School; Steven Tan of the Quantum Academy in General Santos City; and Louie Lugto of Don Alejandro Roces Sr. Science and Technology High School in Quezon City. IPSF team-entry winners were Michelle Borbon, Rachel Bernadas and Mary Cris Corpuz of the Gingoog City Comprehensive National High School; and Marvin Ambrosio, Rachel Cahilig, and Adrian Patacsil of the Philippine Science High School-Quezon City.
The six winning science research works bagged top prizes among more than 3,500 research projects that were entered by high school students all over the country. Of this number, 113 projects made it to the finals and vied for the top prizes in the Life Science and Physical Science categories.
Organized by the Department of Education (DepEd) in collaboration with global semiconductor manufacturing giant Intel, the IPSF is an annual science competition that provides a venue for budding young Filipino scientists to demonstrate their talent and be recognized by their peers and the community.
CHICAGO, Illinois — The Philippine Consulate General in Chicago, in collaboration with the Mayor’s Office, Commission on Human Relations Advisory Council on Veterans’ Affairs, the Filipino - American community and Filipino WWII veterans, marked the “Araw ng Kagitingan” at the Bataan-Corregidor Memorial Bridge April 9, A short program will preceded the wreath laying ceremony.
