Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita April 11 said that he had been quizzed by some non-government organizations regarding the state of human rights in the Philippines but was still waiting for the official review of the Country’s record before the United Nation’s Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland. He leads the country’s delegation to the UNHRC which is set to review the country’s performance. The Philippines has been under fire from various sectors of the spate of killings and abductions under the Arroyo administration. Some Filipino militant groups are also pushing for the ouster of the country from the UNHRC. The country is the 10th in the first batch of 16 countries that would undergo the Universal Periodic Review (UPR). Earlier, migrant groups denounced the ‘lavish’ reception hosted by Ermita for diplomats while Filipinos were facing shortages back home.
