pacquiao-left.jpgLAS VEGAS - Even while Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez were attending the post-fight press conference, Golden Boy Promotions (GBP) announced its intentions to stage a rematch as soon as possible, offeromg Pacquiao a $6-M purse.
I am putting $ 6 million on the table. Come on, Bob, GBP Chief Executive Officer Richard Schaefer told Pacquiaos promoter, Bob Arum of Top Rank.
GBP is tendering its mouthwatering offer to Top Rank and Pacquiao in the midst of Pacquiaos controversial 12-round split decision win over Marquez at the Mandalay Bay and Arums desire to pit Pacquiao against World Boxing Council (WBC) lightweight king David Diaz, who mauled Ramon Montano in a special attraction 10-rounder in the undercard. Arum has tentatively scheduled Pacquiaos quest to capture a fourth world boxing title on June 28 also here at the Mandalay Bay although the cut suffered by the Filipino could derail preparations for such a match.
If Manny cant train for two months because of the wound, then we might have to postpone the Diaz fight,” said Arum, who shrugged off Schaefers calls for a rubber match between the two leading 130-pounders in the world today.

Arum insists that a Diaz clash is the more logical thing to do right now since immediate rematches dont necessarily produce nice results in revenues.
We have to put some air between these kinds of fights, explained Arum before an SRO crowd at the media center.
We have to rebuild again and look what happened to this rematch. It took four years for this to happen,” said Arum, adding that the numbers are exceptional.
Diaz assures that a showdown with Pacquiao guarantees fireworks.
A near-sellout crowd of 11,060 watched the fight and this translated into $ 3.350 million in sales. There were also encouraging figures in the closed circuit.
Under the contract signed by Pacquiao for the rematch, a third fight will have to be made in case he lost.
But its not vice-versa for Marquez, who gave out countless concessions for the March 15 fight, including the clause that mandates Pacquiao to fight him in a rubber match should he lose.
Team Pacquiao members have declined to comment on how much is Pacquiaos purse for the Marquez rematch but sources say the boxer stands to collect more than $ 6 million from his paycheck, share in the pay-per-view, ticket sales and closed-circuit viewing.
Marquez, who drew with Pacquiao when they were featherweights in May 2004, is willing to jump to 135 (lightweight) and even 140 (super-lightweight) just for the third bout to happen.
Pacquiao wrested the superfeatherweight crown from Marquez via split decision over 12 brutal rounds, earning himself a place in boxing history as the first Asian to win titles in three divisions.
The fight, witnessed by a cheering and jeering crowd of more than 11,000, was so close, so unpredictable all throughout, that despite a third-round knockdown scored by Pacquiao, many thought it could have gone either way.
Pacquiao celebrated with his team after the verdict was announced. The victory, which earned him the coveted WBC crown, cemented his claim as the best Asian fighter at present with a record third title in three different weight categories.
Pacquiao also won the WBC flyweight title and the IBF (International Boxing Federation) super bantamweight crown. He also won the Peoples and Ring Magazine featherweight titles.
He said that a third fight with Marquez could happen if he gets what he wants, a guaranteed purse of $6 million or P246 million.
The Mexicans camp insisted that a rematch should come in a couple of months, and not a Pacquiao fight against WBC lightweight champion David Diaz who won in the undercard against a former Pacquiao spar mate which is tentatively scheduled June 28, also at Mandalay Bay.
Marquez didn?t hide his disappointment with the verdict.
I dont like the decision. I still feel Im the champion. It was a bad decision. I thought I fought a great fight. I still feel I am the champion. I dont like the decision, were the words that came out of Marquez on top of the ring.
The knockdown, he got me cold. Then I adjusted and from then on I dictated the whole fight. The knockdown did not affect me. And its not just about one round. The people are the best judges and they were booing him. I won,” he said.
