Hindi naman madaling mag-predict, Pacquiao said during an interview. Hindi ko ina-underestimate ang kakayanan ni Marquez. A poll by Ring Magazine showed an even tally.
Pacquiao, however, gave good account of himself as he rigorously trains under the watch of his American conditioning coach Eric Brown and trainer Freddie Roach. Bastat tuloy-tuloy lang po ang training ko, I did not even look at my weight since the last time na tinimbang ako. I am confident I will make the weight even without much effort, Pacquiao said.
Kampante lang ako sa training ko, Pacquiao added. Handa na ako para sa laban na ito.”
Pacquiao also credited his Filipino sidemen Buboy Fernandez and Nonoy Neri as he works on his strength, speed and stamina in time for his March 15 (March 16 in Manila) fight versus Marquez at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
Earlier, over 300 boxing fans showed up to see Pacquiao perform a half-hour training session. The training session, which took place at the Titanium Training Center here and featured Pacquiao working out with trainer Freddie Roach, was followed by a 45-minute meet-and-greet with his adoring fans, many of them Filipinos.
From the moment Pacquiao got out of a black SUV in front of the gym, fans rushed to mob the 29-year-old boxing star. Dressed in a blue sweat suit and flashing his trademark smile in genuine appreciation, Pacquiao was happy to accommodate everyone he could until he was escorted into the gym. It was a rare treat for all boxing fans, especially the Filipinos, to have the chance to see a national hero and a top-flight athlete such as Pacquiao live and in person.
I cant believe I just shook Manny Pacquiaos hand and got a picture taken with him, Justin Flores, 24, said in disbelief. Hes not as big as I thought, though. During his training session, which ended with Pacquiao using a jump rope, his fans in the crowd were heard screaming out We love you, Manny or Knock him out in the first round.
Pacquiao will need to be at top-form tactically and physically for the March 15 bout with Marquez, who is the World Boxing Commission WBC) World Super Featherweight Champion, and has let it be known how much he wants to avenge their 2004 fight, which ended in a draw.
Sounding more like an ode to the legendary hip-hop tandem, E.P.M.D., the title for the upcoming fight is Unfinished Business.
