President Arroyo and her Cabinet ducked under the table during a Cabinet meeting in Malacanang Nov. 27 when a strong earthquake rattled the building and swayed the massive chandeliers overhead.
Deputy Presidential Spokesman and Office of Civil Defense Executive Director Anthony Golez said he was conducting a briefing on the ongoing rehabilitation work in Bicol before the President and the Cabinet at the State Dining Room when Vice President Noli de Castro exclaimed that there was an earthquake. Witnesses said Mrs. Arroyo immediately sought cover under the table as her security aides rushed to her side since the heavy lighting fixture was directly above her.
The 6.0-magnitude earthquake shook Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon. The temblor struck Luzon at 12:27 p.m. and was centered 195 kilometers northwest of Manila at a depth of 62.5 kilometers, the US Geological Survey reported.
