DALY CITY, California -Filipino-American Mary Rakin of the United States beat Tina Buhnen of Germany, 9-2, in the finals to retain her World Junior girls title at the conclusion of the 2007 WPA World Youth 9-Ball for juniors and girls Nov. 30 in Willingen, Germany. Rakin, who resides in Daly, California, thus became the first back-to-back winner of the event from the US.
It was an amazing comeback for Rakin, who lost her opening match against Denise Wilkinson of New Zealand, 7-4, before sweeping her remaining matches.
En route to the finals, Rakin, who traces her roots to Cavite, trounced Anja Wagner of Germany, 7-6; Hui Ching Yap of Singapore, 7-2; Brina Miller of the United States, 7-2; and Kristina Schagan of Germany, 9-8; and Kim Witzel of Germany, 9-4.
