Christmas joy and sorrow

I first heard of the word Armageddon during my childhood years. It might have been in a catechism class. The thought of the world coming to an end was difficult to fathom. Will it ever come?
I used to just dismiss the thought of the end of the world. But come to think of it, Armageddon is a reality. Tragedy strikes instantly. The world caves in and the sky sucks the life out of the hapless victims. In whatever way you look at it, it is the end of the world for them. That is their Armageddon.
On December 6, Armageddon befell on Dr. Marlene Piccio-Azarcon, a pediatrician in Alexandria, VA. Her life was just becoming fulfilled with the birth of her dream baby just over a year ago. A slick ice patch took her vehicle careening off the road instantly ending all the hopes and dreams of a wonderful life for her husband and her precious little one.
It is a reminder that we all live on borrowed time. Make each moment count with the ones you love. Live for today and leave no regrets for tomorrow.

The Philippines is never boring. People are constantly entertained by politicians hallucinating of power grandeur. I blame the pharmaceutical company who supplied rebel senator Lieutenant Antonio Trillanes, Gen. Danilo Lim and company with an overdose of ego pills.
Trillanes, Lim and other military officers were in the middle of a court proceeding trying the rebellion case against them when they contemptibly walked out and led a march to a nearby luxury hotel and declare a revolutionary government.
Trillianes had previously led a band of soldiers in an anti-government military action that fizzled. Lim was charged with rebellion in connection with the anti-Arroyo civilian and military actions that also failed to topple the sitting president.
In both occasions, the people did not come out in mass to support the self-proclaimed saviors of the republic.
Why did Trillanes and Lim do it one more time? Trillanes won a senate seat while campaigning from his jail cell. Some jailbird must have whispered into his ear that he will be the next Hugo Chavez.
The only problem was that the jailbird was just kidding and Trillanes took it seriously. Come reckoning time, the cavalry that he expected never came. All he got in his instant revolutionary government was a fading ex-senator, a running priest who can probably serve the Filipino people better by producing a video to promote weight loss and a James Bond wannabe who was sporting a wig before the camera.
Whats absurd after the fact is the whining about being pushed and restrained with tight handcuffs. If you take hostile action against the government, you are a hero if you win. But you are damned if you lose. The losers cant demand royal treatment.
If not for rebellion, they should be at least charged with illegally impersonating Andres Bonifacio.

In route to Geneva to take his Nobel Peace Prize, former vice President Al Gore took a jet plane. He must have felt guilty over the carbon emissions spewed by the jet plane because he decided to take a bus from the airport to the awards site purportedly to encourage people to give up their cars.
Dear Al, I will give up my car if you would go around doing your business in America on a bike.
Last week, we put up our live Christmas tree, not to spite Al Gore but to praise the Redeemer.
Merry Christmas.
