More Filipinas are now taking on jobs overseas compared to their male counterparts, said the governments latest State of the Philippine Population Report (SPPR). While male overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) had always outnumbered the women, the latest population study focusing on Filipino labor migration shows that up to 70 percent of Filipinos newly hired abroad are women, based on overseas employment data from 2000 to 2005.
The phenomenal rise in the number of Filipinos working overseas in recent years is also marked by a growing proportion of female migrant workers, said the SPPR. These female OFWs are working mostly as domestic workers, entertainers, caregivers, nurses, and health service providers.
