Letter sending is still preferred by most Filipinos, Philpost Postmaster General Hector Villanueva said. Perhaps, it is a more romantic form even for those who have access to modern communications technology. Filipinos abroad still write letters and love to receive them too,” Villanueva told reporters during the Kapihan ng Bayan forum at the Sulo Hotel.
In fact, according to Villanueva, letter carriers popularly known as karteros are among the most awaited persons in local communities as they deliver letters to the residents from their loved ones abroad. Villanueva said Philpost, a government-run corporation with 2,200 postal stations and 14,000 employees, is delivering an average of one million letters a day despite the advent of modern technology such as cell phones.
