Peaceful polls, only 29 killed

The number of people dead since the barangay election period began on Sept. 29 up to Oct. 29 reached 29, with 24 wounded, and one missing. And the Philippine National Police said it was a relatively peaceful election.
The PNP National Operations Center said the latest incidents brought to 53 the total number of ERVIs recorded within the entire election period. Among the ERVIs recorded by the PNP after the closing of polling centers at 3 p.m. Monday was the shooting death of Marcos Anquilo, a reelected barangay captain of Barangay UEP, Zone II, in Catarman, Northern Samar; and his barangay watchman Roger Reyes.
Anquilo and Reyes were shot by unidentified men at around 5:30 p.m. after the two had observed the vote count. In Sultan Kudarat, Samsudin Lumbos, newly proclaimed barangay chairman of Balut Sultan, Mastura town was gunned down near the municipal hall.
