Malacanang announced the government will seek the help of former President Joseph Estrada in reviving the dairy and livestock industry to generate jobs, save dollars and increase food production in what could be the first concrete cooperative venture between the Arroyo administration and the former leader.
Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita and Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap said the project will include the full implementation of Republic Act
7307, otherwise known as the Philippine Carabao Act of 1992, which was authored by Estrada when he was still a senator. The administration officials? statements came after political leaders from both sides began talking about cooperating on various anti-poverty programs to promote unity following Estrada?s pardon.
The carabao could very well be the symbol of unity, hard work and productivity in this program, Ermita said, adding that while some may have ridiculed the law, Estrada had the foresight of authoring it.
