Desperate Pinoys
The unity displayed by Pinoys after the airing of Desperate Housewives is now being tested. While NaFFAA and other groups have accepted ABCs apology, others want more blood. The latter are calling for continued demonstration against ABC, including the filing of a $500-million class action suit. And the community itself is divided.
In the East Coast, opposition comes from Nedo Valera of Migrant Heritage Commission in DC and Rico Foz of NAFCON in New York.

Eric Lachica, executive director of the American Coalition of Filipino American Veterans, may be ruing the day he said good riddance to Sen. Larry Craig (R-Idaho), former chair of the veterans affairs committee and currently ranking minority member of the committee. After Craig admitted to a misdemeanor at the Minneapolis airport months ago and announced he would resign, Eric immediately said this was good for the Filipino veterans. Craig opposed a higher pension for veterans despite Erics flirtation. Now Craig is withdrawing his decision to resign. If he is still in the vets committee, Eric should apologize for the quickie reaction. To make amends, perhaps Eric should learn how to tap his foot at airport restrooms. Or to date the senator!

Tsismoso is red faced! Ashamed. Several issues ago, he announced, based on reports from his usually reliable embassy moles, that Philippine embassy Agriculture Attache Vic Leviste, alias The Rock, so-called because of his long stint in the embassy, was being recalled by Manila. Some friends had already made preparations to give Vic a despedida party. The despedida did not materialize and Vic is having the last laugh. The reason is that Vic the Rock remains in the embassy and that his term has been extended. Welcome Back, Rock. Philippine Presidents and ambassadors may come and go, but the Rock will stay forever. After all he is doing a great job, says his supporters. Ditto for Tsismoso.

While recalls home are being made in the embassy, new faces are coming up to replace them. There are many new faces in the embassy! exclaims one community leader. And there is no attempt on the part of Ambassador Gaa to introduce them to the community. And many are wondering why the ambassador picked Consul Rico Fos, or is he a minister now, as cultural affairs officer. He doesnt even know how to dance the tinikling exclaimed one Tsismoso. And some are wondering whether the labor attach is mixing with the Filipino American groups, particularly the Migrant Heritage Commission which seems to be in the forefront of helping Overseas Filipino Workers and Filipino workers in need.

Many former officers of the Philippine embassy on Oct. 12 gathered at the residence of Ambassador Gaa. Gaa and his wife invited them for a pot-luck party at their residence in MacLean, Virginia. It was a fun-filled night as the former officials in the embassy relived old times. Incidentally, the ambassador was once the second in command of the Philippine consulate in New York during the martial law years. He was the workhorse who heled the late Consul General Ernesto Pineda run the busy consulate. The ambassadors residence provided the venue for the aging ex-diplomats who had for years dreamt of holding a reunion. The party afforded them a chance to exchange views and experiences, including how they have now, and the problems of aging. Among the subjects discussed were arthritis, back pains, wrinkles, gout and gray hairs!

President Estradas prayer is answered: Lets prey, I mean pray for him.
Eraps Prayer :
Gambling father
who art in jueteng
hakot be thy name
thy kickback come
thy wealth be done,
in Wack-Wack as it is in San Juan.
Give me this day
My daily bribe
And conceal all my sins
As I conceal those who sin along with me
And if I am led into temptation
Deliver me from criticism
For mine is the country,
its power, and its money
forever and ever. Amen.
Response :
Aba Ginoong Estrada
Napupuno ka ng kwarta
Ang panginoon ng jueteng ay sumasaiyo
Bukod kang pinagpala sa lahat ng bobo
At pinagpala ka naman ng kay raming
kulasisi mo.
Eraps Mi ultimo Adios
Mi parte de jueteng wala na.
Mis compadres y lords nabuking na.
Los mansiones de mis
queridas ini-imbistiga
Mis amigos de la Camara el
ultimo pagasa.
