To change how things are done by local public officials and bring back the pride in the Filipino community, there is a need to build a solid group that does the right thing.

This was the gist of a conference on public governance recently where mayors, business leaders, nurses, police and members of the Philippine Military Academy reported on their performance in transforming their cities, towns and offices. No change could be significant if these were individual-based; organized groups of Filipinos are necessary if we want to effect good governance, former Finance Secretary Jesus P. Estanislao said.
Estanislao spoke at the Mahal ko ang Pilipinas [I love the Philippines] forum where sectoral representatives reported on the gains in their public governance practices using the balanced scorecard tool of the Harvard Business School.
According to businessman Rex Drilon II, this management tool is being used by several companies to meet strategic goals.
