Five men killed a 61-year-old female urban poor organizer in an ambush in Antipolo City Sept. 20. The victim, Marica Mondejar, president of the Akbay Maralita Lungsod ng Silangan Townside Reservation along Marcos Avenue, near Cogeo in Antipolo City, was shot in the head and was declared dead on arrival at the Antipolo City Medical Center. Mondejars adopted daughter, Marcia, 17, and another companion, Alicia de Jesus, sustained injuries on the head and body when the Suzuki Escudo they were riding hit a lamppost after the shooting, said Superintendent Danilo Macerin, Antipolo police chief. Macerin said three of the attackers, armed with caliber .45 automatic pistols, opened fire at Mondejars group when they reached Atis Road in Barangay Mayamot at about 6:45 a.m.
After making sure that Mondejar was dead, the gunmen boarded a passenger jeepney and escaped toward Barangay Masinag. Bystanders rushed the three victims to the nearby hospital.
