Asian Indians beat Pinoys?

An Asian Indian group said that based on
ACS projections, Asian Indians already number more than 2.2 million, and have
now-for the first time-slightly eclipsed the Filipino American population to
become the second largest Asian group in the United States. But other estimates
put the total Filipino American population at over 2.3 million.
The survey said immigrants constitute
about 12.4 percent [...]

NaFFAA supportsAmb. Gaa?s programs

For his part, Ambassador Gaa said that
“NaFFAA is close to my heart because I was there during NaFFAA’s formative
years when I was a Consul in Los
Angeles and Mr. Alex Esclamado was at the
organization’s helm.” He recalled that sometime in 1997, Mr. Esclamado
requested for his help in unifying the Filipino-Americans and, in response, he
actively [...]

Lorica asks for audit

Following is the full text of Dr.
Lorica’s letter to the Mail:
Like the majority of the PMA members, I
have been extremely disappointed and saddened by the recent events that have
disrupted our organization.  To date, the PMA President still maintains
that the proper way to address grievances is not by waging a public smear
campaign that only ends up [...]

Pinoys mum on Allen?s ?Macaca?

“We are a non-profit organization and
therefore prohibited from engaging in politics,” said a Filipino American
leader who requested anonymity. Some Filipino Americans said the slur was
“deplorable,” “uncalled for,” and “insensitive, adding that they were assuaged
by the fact that the senator, after a long while, had personally apologized to
the person involved.

Group formed to probe activists? killings

The formation of the group was met with
skepticism by several activist groups in the Philippines.
The President announced the formation of
the committee in honor of former senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr., whom she
dubbed as the most famous victim of political killings.
“We have been making progress in bringing
these cases to court and putting the killers behind bars [...]

September 12

Occasionally during our routes, some
people would open their doors and we would engage in a friendly chat about the
upcoming primary election (Sept. 12). Most are friendly and courteous. Before
parting ways, we’d ask them to support our candidates.

America?s Mission

A new book - “Failed States: The Abuse of
Power and the Assault on Democracy” - overturns that self-image of America as the
“beacon of freedom and democracy lighting the way for the rest of the world.”
Written by the famed polemicist Noam
Chomsky, the book excoriates that American image. “It is a lie,” he bluntly
says, “and it has [...]

TRANSITION

This is the time to see the neglected areas in the house that were calling for
much needed attention. Of course, I still have to cook for my husband who
needed nourishment of Filipino food. After all these years, sandwiches and
pizza are not lunch nor dinner fares for him. It must be at least two courses
with rice. [...]

Impeachment woes

From the looks of it, Arroyo can survive
the never-ending volley of impeachment salvos for as long as the administration
has the numbers in the House.  If the impeachment raps get by the House,
she may get booted out by souring senators in the Senate. For now, only the
people power scenario can threaten to shortcut her term.
That she [...]

A different style

It is worthy to mention here that unlike
past career envoys, Ambassador Gaa has the full support of Malacanang and the
Department of Foreign Affairs, something which one needs to be successful in
this city. And as the Manila Times editorial puts it: “Gaa’s appointment …is
(also) a victory for the foreign office’s career service which insists on the
appointment [...]
